Kinetik participate in Marconi Centenary

On the 12th December 2001, Cornwall celebrated the 100th anniversary of the world’s first trans-Atlantic radio transmission by Marconi at the newly opened Marconi Exhibition Centre at Poldhu, Cornwall. Inspired by the centenary, Kinetik had already recorded a composition between April - November 2001 for inclusion on the forthcoming Modem Times project. It was decided that a CD single, 'MARCONI' featuring the track should be released on the anniversary date. Advance copies were distributed to local radio stations for promotional airplay and this directly led to Kinetik being asked to attend the celebrations.

BBC Radio Cornwall used part of Kinetik’s music throughout the day in trailers for the event. During the morning, Kinetik were also interviewed by the station for possible inclusion in a programme about Marconi which will be broadcast on 31st December between 1pm & 2pm UK time.

Another local radio station, Pirate FM also transmitted a special radio programme from the Poldhu site during the celebrations. As well as playing the new Kinetik single during the day, Kinetik were also interviewed by the station live, on-air, explaining the inspiration behind the band’s new material.

The highlight of the day however, was the chance of meeting Marconi’s grandson, Prince Guglielmo Giovanelli-Marconi who was guest of honour at the celebrations. He seemed genuinely delighted when presented with a copy of the new CD by Andrew Slegt. It was a great honour for all of the band to have the unexpected pleasure of meeting him and explaining the inspiration for their latest work.

A full feature on the production of the new single and the celebrations at Poldhu will be posted on Kinetik website soon.

Kinetik Music to be used on video documentary

Shortly after the release of the Marconi CD single, Kinetik were approached for permission for music material from the CD to be used as a backing for sequences on a forthcoming video production.

The video will feature the Cornish village of Mullion (near to the recently opened Marconi Exhibition Centre) and the area's historical connections with Marconi. The video will be distributed to archives, The National Trust, Poldhu Amateur Radio Club and Local History Societies.

Kinetik's music is likely to be used for sequences featuring coverage of the recent Marconi celebrations at Poldhu.

Unofficial Kinetik remixes hit the dancefloor !

Kinetik were somewhat bemused to receive a CD containing two unauthorised remixes of the track I.S.D.N. recently. Remixed by Martin Oxenham and ‘Octeight’, the CD features heavy Dance arrangements of various samples culled from the mixes found on the official Kinetik I.S.D.N. EP release. Apparently, the tracks have been going down rather well when played at various clubs throughout the UK, with even a record company taking an interest in the tracks !

Since the CDs have been produced as a non-commercial venture, strictly for distribution to various DJs for the well-meant intention of promoting Kinetik to a wider audience, no legal action will be taken against the people involved. However, Kinetik would like to urge anyone who might be tempted to embark on something similar to please contact them first for official permission. Who knows, the band might even be able to supply some original sound snippets or samples used in the original production !

At the moment, Kinetik are debating whether to include these mixes onto the I.S.D.N. EP re-pressing scheduled for early 2002.
